I've admired Gary Petersen's work for a few years now - I think he's among the best of the current generation of painters. His images suggest a kind of video-game tantra, poised between the physical indulgence of playing a game and a disembodied, transcendent state. Amazingly, he has never played Tempest [the vector-based video game, not EM eavesdropping technology, nor Shakespeare's best.] He has a show of new work coming up in a few weeks at Michael Steinberg Fine Art.
