The Katzen Center isn't the only thing going on at AU - just found this via Rhizome: AU's Center for Social media has just posted 'Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use.' I look forward to reading this, with an eye towards the implictions for non-documentary visual artists and sound artists [like Negativland]. Political art in particular seems to lend itself to appropriating/sampling/collaging/remixing, and with the Visual Politics exhibition coming to AU, it might be interesting to get the statement's principal investigators Pat Aufderheide and Peter Jaszi to speak to that while the show is up. |
